Pilgrimage to Barcelona, Santiago & Madrid

Day Itinerary |
Day 1: Depart USA
Start your journey aboard an overnight flight from Newark
airport. Meals will be served.
Day 2: Barcelona
The group will arrive in Barcelona
and met by our Professional Pilgrimage Escort and transferred to the
hotel. Afternoon sightseeing with a local guide, to visit the Gothic
Quarter, Old Town, La Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Park Guell,
Columbus Monument, Las Ramblas, Plaza de Cataluna, historic
buildings along Paseo de Graciathe, a panoramic view from Castillo
Montjuic, and a visit to the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia. OPTIONAL
visit to the Picasso Museum. Dinner and overnight in Barcelona. (D)
Day 3: Barcelona
(Montserrat excursion)
After breakfast, depart to the
Montserrat Basilica, if possible to include the singing by the boys’
choir. SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA was drawn here as have been, for
over the last thousand years, pilgrims from all over the world.
Return to Barcelona with some free time to explore the city. Dinner
on your own. Overnight in Barcelona. (B)
Day 4: Barcelona /
Zaragoza
Depart in the morning for Zaragoza,
considered to be one of the world’s largest Marian Shrines. It is
referred to as “Our Lady of the Pillar”. It is said to be a
place visited by The Blessed Mother before her Assumption. Balance
of the day at leisure. Dinner at the hotel and overnight in
Zaragoza. (B,D)
Day 5: Zaragoza /
Santander
After
breakfast we travel to Santander in Spain. En route, brief stop in
Loyola (the birthplace and home of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the
founder of the Jesuit order). In Santander, visit the Cathedral,
which has been a Cathedral since the 18th century, but in
the 8th century it was an abbey, and in the 13th
century, a collegiate Church. Dinner and overnight in Santander.

Day 6: Santander /
Covadonga / Santiago de Compostela
Depart
Santander for Santiago de Compostela. En route, stop in COVADONGA,
which is
dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Masses
are still given in the cavern where the Virgin Mary appeared in 722
to the army of Don Pelayo. It is said that, thanks to divine
intervention, the Christian army was victorious against the Islamic
invaders. Shortly afterwards, Don Pelayo became the first Spanish
King and the reconquest of the peninsula by Christian forces began.
Dinner and overnight in Santiago.

Day 7: Santiago
After
we tour the famous city of Santiago de Compostela. The group will
take part in an orientation tour of one of Europe’s most spectacular
basilicas, the Cathedral of St. James. Also visit the Plaza del
Obradoiro, Archbishop’s Palace, and the Rajoy Palace, presently
being used as the city hall. Balance of the day to explore on your
own. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Santiago. (B)
Day 8: Santiago / Madrid
After
breakfast depart for Spain’s capital city, Madrid. In Madrid, enjoy
and orientation tour from the motorcoach, passing by such sights as
the Prado and the world famous Royal Palace. Dinner and overnight in
Madrid.

Day 9: Madrid (Optional
Avila & Segovia)
Free day in Madrid, or take an
OPTIONAL side trip to the walled city of AVILA, most famous for
being the home of SAINT TERESA , one of the three female doctors of
the Church. We will visit her place of birth, today a church, the
Cathedral, and the Convent of the Incarnation, just outside the city
walls. Continue to SEGOVIA where you will see a 2,000 year old Roman
aqueduct, visit the Cathedral, and the famous ALCAZAR. Outside the
walls, we will visit a convent near the Vera Cruz Church,
constructed by the Templars, where the mortal remains of SAINT JOHN
of the CROSS are buried. Return to Madrid for dinner and overnight.
OPTIONAL FLAMENCO entertainment in the late evening.

Day 10: Madrid / USA
Morning departure for Madrid Airport
in the morning and arrive U.S. same day. (B)
