Pilgrimage to Fatima & Santiago   8 Day Itinerary

 

Day 1: Depart USA

Depart Newark airport on an overnight flight. Meals will be served aboard flight.

 

Day 2: Lisbon / Fatima

Arrive in Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon. Time allowing there will be a brief panoramic sightseeing tour of Lisbon before departure for Fatima. The day will also include a stop in Santarem where the "Miracle of the Bleeding Host" will be viewed. Enjoy free time upon arrival in Fatima with time to explore this world famous shrine on your own. The option of attending a video presentation on the history of Fatima will be made available for your enjoyment. Dinner and overnight in Fatima. (D)

 

Day 3: Fatima

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, take a morning visit to the holy places at the Shrine of Fatima, including the Basilica, with the tombs of the children; the Chapel of the Apparitions (Capelinha), and the Miraculous Fountain. Afternoon visit to Aljustrel, the hamlet where the three children were raised; Valinhos, where Our Lady appeared in August 1917 after the children were released from prison; and the Fatima church where the children were baptized. Dinner and overnight in Fatima. (B,D)

 

Day 4: Fatima / Braga

After breakfast say farewell to Fatima as you continue your journey to Spain. Coimbra is the first stop of the day where the group can visit the Carmelite Monastery where Sister Lucia (one of the three children of Fatima) made her residence. The tour will continue to its evening stop in the religious city of Braga, Portugal for a visit to the "Holy Mountain of Sameiro" and Bom Jesu. Dinner and overnight in Braga. (B,D)

 

Day 5: Braga / Pontevedra

Depart Braga after breakfast for Pontevedra, Spain. Enjoy a brief tour of this city, one of Spain’s religious gems. Experience a visit to Santa Maria la Mayor, a 16th century church. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Pontevedra on your own. Dinner and overnight in Pontevedra. (B,D)

 

Day 6: Pontevedra / Santiago

After breakfast depart hotel for a full day excursion to the famous city of Santiago de Compostela. The group will take part in an orientation tour of one of Europe’s most spectacular basilicas, the Cathedral of St. James. Also visit the Plaza del Obradoiro, Archbishop’s Palace, and the Rajoy Palace, presently being used as the city hall. Balance of the day to explore Santiago on your own. Dinner and overnight in Pontevedra. (B,D)

 

Day 7: Pontevedra / Oporto/ Lisbon

After breakfast at the hotel the group will depart for Oporto, the second largest city in Portugal. This lovely city is famous for its wine production and if time allows a visit to a winery will be included. Dinner and overnight in a Lisbon area hotel. (B,D)

 

Day 8: Lisbon / USA

Depart for Lisbon Airport with same day arrival at Newark airport. (B)
