12 Day Itinerary

 

ITINERARY

 

DAY 1:  DEPART USA

The group will depart from Newark on our international flight to Milan. Dinner and breakfast will be served aboard flight.

 

DAY 2:  MILAN / BOLOGNA

We arrive in Milan where we will be met by our Professional Pilgrimage Escort. We will board our deluxe motorcoach and enjoy the countryside en route to Bologna. Upon arrival in Bologna we will see the Shrine of St. Catherine, St. Dominic’s tomb and the Church of Saint Sigismund which houses the relics of Blessed Imelda Lambertini. Mass will be celebrated at the tomb of St. Dominic. Dinner and overnight in Bologna. (D)

 

 

Day 3:  BOLOGNA / FLORENCE

Today we depart Bologna for Florence, the city of art. Our tour highlights: The Duomo & the Baptistry designed by Giotto as well as Santa Croce, the famous Church where Dante, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and many others are buried. Also visit the famous statue of David by Michelangelo. Dinner and overnight in Florence. (B,D)

 

 

Day 4:  FLORENCE

Free day in Florence to explore the city on your own. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Florence. (B)

 

 

Day 5:  FLORENCE / SIENA

We depart Florence to the beautiful town of Siena, the home of St. Catherine, located in the central Italian region of Tuscany, a medieval walled city that to this day retains much of its charm. Attend Mass at and tour St. Dominic’s church, followed by a visit to the Eucharistic Miracle at St. Francis Basilica. Dinner and overnight in Siena.  (B,D)

 

Day 6:  SIENA

After breakfast, visit the Home and Sanctuary of St. Catherine of Siena and have Mass at her church.  In the afternoon, Visit the Piazza del Campo, the center of the city, the Palazzo Pubblico (town hall famous for its gothic architecture), and tour the Duomo.  Rest of day free with overnight in Siena. Dinner on your own. (B)

 

 

Day 7:  SIENA / ASSISI

We depart Siena for Assisi, the town of St. Francis and St. Clare.  A tour will include visits to the Basilica of St. Francis (view the exquisite artwork by Giotto), the Convent of St. Clare, and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels.   Dinner and overnight in Assisi. (B,D)

 

 

Day 8:  ASSISI / ORVIETO / ROME

Today we depart for "The Eternal city", Rome, with a stop first at the hilltop town of Orvieto, home to a Eucharistic miracle in 1263 which established the Feast of Corpus Chrisit. Ride the funicular up and visit the Duomo, which houses the altar cloth of the Miracle. In San Domenico see the chair of St. Thomas Aquinas, who taught in Orvieto. Upon arrival in Rome, enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour from your motorcoach of some of the other important sights of Rome such as the Palazzo Venezia, the Circus Maximus, the Forum, the Arch of Constantine, and of course, the Colosseum. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

 

Day 9: ROME
Early Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. Then the group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience (if available – but not in October). After the Audience, visit the Catacombs along the Appian Way. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

 

Day 10: ROME
Visit Santa Sabina, the church given to St. Dominic by Pope Honorius III in 1219.  Mass will be celebrated here. In this church top the Aventine Hill, see chapel of St. Catherine of Siena and 5th century carved doors with panels of Biblical scenes.  Visit cloister with St. Dominic’s room and see the orange tree in the courtyard he is said to have planted.  Enjoy splendid city views from the garden.  Also peer through the “Knights of Malta” keyhole for a famous look across town.  In the afternoon visit St. John Lateran, the Holy Stairs, and St. Mary Major. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

 

Day 11: ROME

Today enjoy a guided tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, and the world famous Vatican Museums, featuring a visit to the Sistine Chapel.  Afternoon is free to explore the Eternal City on your own. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

 

 

DAY 12 ROME / USA

After breakfast we depart our hotel for Rome Airport. Arrive home the same day. (B)
