Pilgrimage to Einsiedeln, La Salette & Northern Italy
10 Day Itinerary |
Day 1: Depart USA
Depart on our international flight to Milan. Dinner and breakfast
will be served aboard flight.
Day 2: Milan
Upon
arrival in Milan you will be met by the Tour Escort and a deluxe
motorcoach. Before arriving at the hotel we will visit Our Lady
of Sorrows Shrine in Rho. St. Charles Borromeo began the
basilica in Our Lady’s honor but died before it was finished. The
painting of the Pieta shed tears of blood on April 24, 1583. The
custodians of this basilica are the Oblate Missionaries of Rho.
Dinner and overnight in Milan. (D)
Day 3: Milan / Bologna
Morning tour of Milan. Visit to the Cathedral and the
Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da
Vinci’s famous painting of the Last Supper. Depart for
Bologna. En route, visit the Madonna of Caravaggio. Here, in
1432, Our Lady appeared to a young woman, Giavanetta. In 1575, St.
Charles Borromeo, the Bishop of Milan at the time, employed the
architect Pellegrini to enlarge the shrine, which occupies the very
spot on which the Virgin stood during the apparition. Dinner and
overnight in Bologna. (B,D)

Day 4: Bologna / Rapallo
/ Genoa
Morning tour of Bologna. Visit to the Shrine of La Madonna di San
Luca, (Our Lady of St. Luke), built during the Crusades. There,
the image of the Madonna has been venerated since the 12th
century. The painting itself is said to have been painted by St.
Luke the Apostle. Also visit the Shrine of St. Catherine, and
St. Dominic’s tomb. Depart for Genoa with a stop in Rapallo to
visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Montallegro. It was on
July 2, 1557 that Our Lady appeared here to a farmer and left him a
small picture which showed Mary wrapped in a brown robe lying on a
bier in preparation for her Assumption. Dinner and overnight in
Genoa. (B,D)
Day 5: Genoa / Turin
After breakfast we have an orientation tour of Genoa before
departing for Turin to visit Our Lady of Oropa – The Black Madonna,
and The Shrine of The Madonna of Consolation. The Marian Shrine
of Our Lady of Oropa was founded by the 4th century
bishop-martyr St. Eusebius, one of the earliest champions of
Catholic Orthodoxy. The Sacred Statue of Our Lady was brought to
Oropa from the Holy Land by St. Eusebius who, while in exile, found
three statues buried in ancient ruins. Hundreds of “stupendous
miracles” have been documented having occurred in the Shrine. The
Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, contains an icon painted in
the 5th century, Various Popes have recognized the
sanctuary, especially Pope Pius X, who elevated the Sanctuary to a
pontifical basilica. Our Lady of Consolation inspired the founder of
the Consolata Missionaries. Also, visit the Shroud or Turin
(if available). Dinner and overnight in Turin (B,D)

Day 6: Turin / La Salette
After breakfast, depart for Turin for France. Visit the Shrine of
Our Lady of La Salette, where in 1846 the Blessed Virgin Mary
appeared, crying, to the children Melanie and Maximin because
“Sundays and the holy name of Jesus are profaned”. Dinner and
overnight in Grenoble. (B,D)

Day 7: Grenoble / Berne /
Interlaken / Einsiedeln
After breakfast we depart for Einsiedeln, crossing the border into
Switzerland. Travel along Lake Geneva to Berne. Visit Lord Byron’s
Chillon castle. In Berne, visit the Old Town with its gothic
cathedral, famous Clock Tower and House of Parliament. From Berne we
pass through Interlaken and into the Bernese Oberland across the
Bruenig Pass to Gersau, Brunnen to Einsiedeln for dinner and
overnight. (B,D)
Day 8: Einsiedeln /
Lucerne / Einsiedeln
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and depart for morning sightseeing
tour. The Shrine of Our Lady of Einsiedeln dates back to the
mid-800s. St. Meinrad built a hermitage here. In 940 a few
Benedictine monks turned St. Meinrad’s small hermitage into a
chapel. Legend has it that Christ Himself consecrated the new “Lady
Chapel” on September 14, 948. Visit the Benedictine Abbey and
the chapel containing the “Black Madonna”. In the afternoon
drive to Lucerne and enjoy a walking tour. See the Old Town
Hall, the twin-towered Hofcurch , the Lion Monument, the famous old
bridge and water tower, and the Jesuitenkirche. An OPTIONAL
EXCURSION will be offered to visit Mt. Pilatus by cable-car. Return
to Einsiedeln for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 9: Einsiedeln / Stresa
After breakfast we depart we depart for Stresa. Enjoy the afternoon
at leisure in one of Italy’s premier resort cities. Located on the
shores of Lake Maggiore, Stresa has much to offer in the way of
shopping, sightseeing, and relaxation. Dinner on your own. Overnight
in Stresa. (B)

Day 10: Milan / USA
Depart Stresa for the Milan Airport and our return flight to the
USA. Arrive home the same day. (B)
