Footsteps of St. Paul in Greece & Rome 12 Day Itinerary

 

DAY 1: DEPART USA

Depart the USA for Greece on our transatlantic flight. Dinner and breakfast served aboard overnight flight.

 

DAY 2: ATHENS / THESSALONIKI

Arrive in Macedonia where we are greeted by our Tour Escort and transferred to our hotel. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki. (D)

 

DAY 3: THESSALONIKI / PHILIPPI

After breakfast at the hotel we depart for our guided tour beginning with Kavala, the port where Paul first landed with Timothy and Silas. We then continue on to Philippi, where Paul was imprisoned. View the prison, the Market Place, Basilica and Theater. Also visit the Amphipolis, famous starting point of Alexander the Great on his mission to "conquer the world." Dinner and overnight Thessaloniki. (B,D)

 

DAY 4: THESSALONIKI / KALAMBAKA

Today you will visit the Archeological Museum, St. George Church, the Galerius Arch and the Basilica of St. Sophia and St. Dimetrius before continuing to Macedonia. This afternoon we visit Pella, birthplace of Alexander the Great, and the famous steps of Paul in Beria, where he preached. Continue to Kalambaka for dinner and overnight (B,D)

 

DAY 5: KALAMBAKA / DELPHI

This morning we visit Meteora, where we will ascend huge granite rocks to view architectural wonders over 700 years old. Visit the monastery of Metamorphosis with its church and Museum containing priceless historic and religious treasures. Continue to Delphi for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

DAY 6: DELPHI / ATHENS

We depart after breakfast for Apollo. We will see the Treasury, the Theater, the Archeological Museum and the first monument built in the ancient world to "One God." Dinner and overnight in Athens. (B,D)

 

DAY 7: ATHENS

Our tour today takes us to the Acropolis and the ruins of Parthenon, the Erechtheion with its six Caryatids, the majestic and complex Propylea, Mars Hill, the Agora (ancient marketplace) and other ancient sites. Also visit the Archaeological Museum. Balance of the day is at leisure to shop or explore Athens on your own. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Athens. (B)

 

DAY 8: ATHENS / CORINTH

After breakfast depart on the motorcoach for Corinth along St. Paul’s original journey. Walk the marketplace where St. Paul preached then visit the Archeological Museum and the Temples. Here St. Paul founded the first church consisting entirely of Gentiles. Return to Athens by way of the Corinth Canal and Cenchraeae harbor. Paul sailed from this site to Ephesus. Balance of the day is at leisure. In the evening, enjoy a dinner at a typical Greek taverna with show. Overnight in Athens. (B,D)

 

 

DAY 9: ATHENS / ROME

 After breakfast transfer to the airport for our flight to Rome. Upon arrival at the Rome Airport the group will be transferred by deluxe motorcoach to the hotel. En route, enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour from your motorcoach of some of the other important sights of Rome including the Palazzo Venezia, the Circus Maximus, the Forum, the Arch of Constantine and of course the Colosseum. There are no planned activities for the first day so please enjoy some time at leisure to explore Rome on your own. Enjoy dinner at the hotel your first night in the “Eternal City.” Overnight in Rome. (B,D)

 

DAY 10: ROME

The group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience (if available). After the Audience, visit to three of the four major basilicas of Rome: St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and of course, St. Paul Outside the Walls. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)

 

 

DAY 11: ROME

Enjoy a guided tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, and the world famous Vatican Museums, featuring a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Balance of the day is at leisure to explore Rome on your own. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B)

 

DAY 12: ROME / USA

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for our return flight to the USA arriving home the same day. (B)
