Padre Pio & Eucharistic Miracles of Southern Italy   10 Day Itinerary

 

Day 1: Depart USA

Enjoy an overnight flight with meals.

 

Day 2: Rome / Naples / Sorrento

Upon arrival at the Rome Airport the group will be met by the tour guide and transferred to Naples, one of Italy's largest cities, for an orientation tour that will include a visit to the Church of St. Januarium.  Continue to Sorrento where the group will enjoy dinner and overnight in this scenic town.   (D)

Day 3: Sorrento (Pompeii Excursion)

After breakfast depart for a morning excursion to Pompeii, an ancient city that was covered by volcanic lava during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius over 2,000 years ago.  Also visit the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary.  The afternoon in Sorrento is on your own to explore, shop or just relax.  Dinner and overnight are in Sorrento.  (B,D)

 

Day 4: Sorrento / San Giovanni Rotondo

After breakfast at the hotel in Sorrento depart for San Giovanni Rotondo, the small town closely associated with the life of Padre Pio.  Visit the Grotto of St. Michael and Padre Pio' the "Home for the Relief of Suffering," a famous charitable work of Padre Pio.  Visit his tomb, cell and confessional, and the old church where he received teh stigmata, as well the Church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie, a newer church.  Overnight in San Giovanni Rotondo.  (B,D) (Sep. 23 is St. Padre Pio's Feast Day.)

 

Day 5: San Giovanni Rotondo / Lanciano / Loreto

The group departs for Loreto in the morning with a brief stop in Lanciano, where there was a Eucharistic Miracle of Jesus that took place.  Arrive in Loreto and visit the Basilica that contains the home of the Holy Family of Nazareth.  Dinner and overnight in Loreto.  (B,D)

 

Day 6: Loreto / Assisi

After breakfast we depart Loreto for Assisi, the town of St. Francis.  A tour will include visits to the Basilica of St. Francis (view the exquisite artwork of Giotto), the Convent of St. Clare, and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels.  Afternoon free to explore Assisi.  (B,D)

 

Day 7: Assisi / Orvieto / Rome

This morning depart Assisi for Orvieto with a brief stop in the cathedral, where in 1263 a Eucharistic Miracle took place.  Upon arrival in Rome enjoy an afternoon at leisure.  Dinner and overnight in Rome.  (B,D)

 

Day 8: Rome

Following breakfast we will enjoy a guided tour of St. Peter's Basilica, and the world famous Vatican Museums, featuring a visit to the Sistine Chapel.  Balance of teh day at leisure to explore Rome on your own..  (B,D)

 

Day 9: Rome

The group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience (if available.  (No Papal Audience for the July or September tours.)  After the Audience enjoy a wonderful half-day tour of Rome.  We will visit three of the four major basilicas of Rome: St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major.  Enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour from your motorcoach of some of the other important sights of Rome including the Palazzo Venezia, the Circu Maximus, the Forum, the Arch of Constantine and the world famous Colosseum.  Dinner and overnight in Rome.  (B,D)

 

Day 10: Rome

After breakfast bid farewell to the Eternal City and depart Rome Airport for U.S..  (B)
