Rome and Sicily   10 Day Itinerary

 

Day 1: Depart USA

Depart Newark Airport on an overnight flight to Italy. Enjoy dinner served aboard.

 

Day 2: Rome

Arrive Rome early morning. You will be met by the tour guide and transferred to the hotel. En route, panoramic tour from the motorcoach of some of Rome’s ancient sites including the Appian Way, the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, Palazzo Venezia, the Circus Maximus, and the Forum. The balance of the day will be at leisure in the "Eternal City" with time for personal sightseeing, shopping, or relaxation. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (D)

 

Day 3: Rome

Depart after breakfast for the Papal Audience (if available). In the morning enjoy a guided tour of St. Peter’s Basilica as well as the Vatican Museum including the Sistine Chapel. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)

 

Day 4: Rome

After breakfast depart for a tour of Rome. Visit the Catacombs, St. Peter in Chains, St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, and St. Paul Outside the Walls. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)

 

Day 5: Rome / Palermo

Depart Rome after breakfast for flight to Palermo. Upon arrival, a private coach and tour escort will be waiting to transfer you to hotel in Palermo. Balance of the day at leisure in Palermo. This evening enjoy a special Welcome Dinner. Overnight in Palermo. (B,D)

 

Day 6: Palermo / Monreale

This morning, guided city tour includes a visit to St. John of the Hermits Church, Quattro Canti, and the magnificent Palatine Chapel. This afternoon we drive to the small town of Monreale, where we visit the Benedictine Abbey with its fine mosaics depicting the complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments. Return to hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Palermo. (B,D)

 

Day 7: Agrigento

Morning departure for Agrigento. After arrival and check in, you will visit the "Valley of the Temples," a breathtaking array of well preserved Temples built by the Greeks who once inhabited the island. Dinner and overnight in Agrigento. (B,D)

 

Day 8: Agrigento / Syracuse / Taormina

Morning departure for the beautiful resort of Taormina. En route, we will stop in the town of Syracuse, an archaeological wonder. A guided tour will bring you to Ortigia, the oldest part of the city, connected to the isle by a bridge. You will see the marvelous Baroque Cathedral, the Greek City, Archaeological Park, and the "Cave of Dionysus." This evening, dinner and overnight in Taormina. (B,D)

 

Day 9: Taormina / Messina

Enjoy a morning tour of nearby Messina. Also visit the Greek Theater with its spectacular view of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Dinner and overnight in Taormina. (B,D)

 

Day 10: Catania / USA

Depart for Catania Airport after breakfast. Transfer flights in Rome and arrive in Newark Airport the same day. (B)
