Pilgrimage to Italy and Portugal
12 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Depart USA
Depart Newark Airport on TAP Air Portugal. Enjoy dinner served aboard overnight flight.
Day 2: Milan / Padua
Arrive Milan early morning where the group will be met by the tour guide and transferred to a hotel in Padua, the town where St. Anthony spent the final years of his life. Enjoy an afternoon tour of Padua with a visit to the Basilica of St. Anthony. Also visit his Tomb, located in the Basilica, and take some time for private devotions. Dinner and overnight in Padua. Day 3: Padua / Venice
After breakfast depart for a full day excursion to Venice. Visit the Basilica of St. Mark, the Bridge of Sighs and Doges’ Palace. Afternoon free to explore Venice. Return to Padua for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
Day 4: Padua
After breakfast, spend the day at leisure to explore Padua on your own time. Feast Day is June 13. (B,D)
Day 5: Padua / Florence
Depart after breakfast for Florence, considered by many to be the cultural heart of Italy. After hotel check-in, the group will visit some of its important sites including the Duomo, the Baptistry designed by Giotto, and Santa Croce – the famous church where Dante, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci among others are buried. The group will also visit the famous statue of "David." Dinner and overnight in Florence. (B,D)
Day 6: Florence / Assisi / Rome
After breakfast depart for Assisi, the town of St. Francis. A tour will include visits to the Basilica of St. Francis (view the exquisite artwork by Giotto), the Convent of St. Clare, and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Depart for Rome in the afternoon and arrive for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
Day 7: Rome
The group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience (if available). After the Audience enjoy a guided tour of the world famous Vatican Museums, featuring a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)
Day 8: Rome
Enjoy a wonderful tour of Rome after breakfast. The first stop of the day will be the Catacombs and the Appian Way, followed by visits to the four major basilicas of Rome including St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Walls, St. Mary Major and of course St. Peter’s Basilica. Enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour from your motorcoach of some of the other important sights of Rome including the Palazzo Venezia, the Circus Maximus, the Forum, the Arch of Constantine and of course the Colosseum. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)
Day 9: Rome / Lisbon / Fatima
Depart Rome for flight to Lisbon where the group will be met by their tour guide. En route to Fatima enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of Lisbon, the birthplace of St. Anthony. Included will be a stop to visit the Church of St. Anthony and the nearby St. Anthony Museum. En route to Fatima visit Santarem where the "Miracle of the Bleeding Host" will be viewed. Arrive in Fatima for a video presentation on the history of Fatima. Dinner and overnight in Fatima. (B, D)
Day 10: Fatima
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, take a morning visit to the holy places at the Shrine of Fatima, including the Basilica, with the tombs of the children; the Chapel of the Apparitions (Capelinha), and the Miraculous Fountain. Afternoon visit to Aljustrel, the hamlet where the three children were raised; Valinhos, where Our Lady appeared in August 1917 after the children were released from prison; and the Fatima church where the children were baptized. Dinner and overnight in Fatima. (B, D)
Day 11: Fatima / Coimbra
Depart Fatima for a half-day excursion to Coimbra, a place that St. Anthony spent a portion of his life before he departed Portugal for Italy. Also visit the Carmelite Monastery where Sister Lucia (one of the three children of Fatima) makes her residence to this day. Return to Fatima for an afternoon at leisure for personal sightseeing, shopping or private devotions. Dinner and overnight in Fatima. (B, D)
Day 12: Fatima / USA
Depart Fatima after breakfast for the Lisbon Airport. Arrive USA same day. (B)
